Muslim Quarter
About Muslim Quarter
Xi'an's Muslim Quarter is a vibrant neighborhood that has been home to the city's Hui Muslim community for over 1,000 years. The area is famous for its Islamic architecture, bustling food markets, and authentic halal cuisine. The narrow streets are lined with food stalls, souvenir shops, and historic mosques.
History
The Muslim Quarter developed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE) when Xi'an was the starting point of the Silk Road. Muslim merchants and travelers settled here, creating a unique blend of Chinese and Islamic cultures that continues today. The Great Mosque, built in 742 CE, remains the heart of the community.
