About Humble Garden

The Humble Garden (Zhuozheng Yuan) is one of Suzhou's most famous classical gardens and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This 5.2-hectare garden exemplifies traditional Chinese garden design with its elegant pavilions, winding corridors, rockeries, and water features, creating a harmonious blend of architecture and nature.

History

Built in 1509 during the Ming Dynasty by Wang Xianchen, a retired government official, the Humble Garden has been expanded and renovated over centuries. The garden's name reflects the owner's modest character and the traditional Chinese philosophy of finding beauty in simplicity. It represents the pinnacle of Suzhou's garden art.
