The Bund
About The Bund
The Bund is Shanghai's most famous waterfront promenade, stretching 1.5 kilometers along the Huangpu River. This historic area showcases a stunning collection of colonial-era buildings from the early 20th century, offering spectacular views of both old Shanghai's European architecture and Pudong's futuristic skyline across the river.
History
Originally a muddy towpath, The Bund became Shanghai's financial district during the colonial period (1840s-1940s). International banks, trading houses, and consulates built grand buildings here, creating the 'Wall Street of Asia.' Today, these historic structures house luxury hotels, restaurants, and cultural venues.
