Oriental Pearl Tower
About Oriental Pearl Tower
The Oriental Pearl Tower is Shanghai's most recognizable landmark, standing 468 meters tall in the Pudong district. This unique TV tower, with its distinctive spherical design, offers panoramic views of Shanghai from multiple observation decks and houses a revolving restaurant, museum, and entertainment facilities.
History
Completed in 1994, the Oriental Pearl Tower was once Asia's tallest structure and symbolized Shanghai's rapid modernization. Its design was inspired by a Tang Dynasty poem describing pearls falling onto a jade plate, representing the tower's spheres against the blue sky.
