Lingyin Temple (Temple of the Soul's Retreat) is one of China's largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples, located in a beautiful valley near West Lake. The temple complex includes ancient grottoes with Buddhist carvings, magnificent halls, and serene gardens, making it a spiritual and cultural treasure.

History

Founded in 326 CE during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Lingyin Temple has been destroyed and rebuilt 16 times throughout its history. The temple reached its peak during the Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty, when it was one of the most important Buddhist centers in China. The Feilai Peak grottoes contain over 470 Buddhist carvings.
