Elephant Trunk Hill is Guilin's most famous landmark, resembling a giant elephant drinking water from the Li River. This unique karst formation has become the symbol of Guilin and appears on the city's official emblem. The hill offers beautiful views and houses several temples and pavilions.
History
Formed over millions of years by water erosion, Elephant Trunk Hill has been celebrated in Chinese literature and art for centuries. The hill contains several historical sites including Puxian Pagoda on top and Water Moon Cave between the 'trunk' and 'body' of the elephant.
