The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is considered one of the best-preserved and most beautiful parts of this ancient fortification. Located 70 kilometers northeast of Beijing, it offers stunning mountain scenery and fewer crowds than other sections, making it perfect for both casual visitors and hiking enthusiasts.

History

This section was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) on the foundations of an earlier wall from the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577). The Mutianyu section stretches for 2.25 kilometers and features 22 watchtowers, showcasing sophisticated military architecture and defensive strategies.
